One critical factor that has gone unreported: hazmat material use. for example microwave magnetrons used to use beryllium, now domestic models rarely do. cadmium contact microswitches, platinum plated thermostats, etc. almost all gone.

I also feel that the numbers on average lifespan are getting cooked by the foreign manufacturers. they already figured out how to game the review system....
