I would put it this way: the question "do LLMs, etc understand?" is rooted in a category mistake. Meaning, I am not claiming that it is premature to answer such questions because we lack a sufficient grasp of neutral networks. I am asserting that LLMs don't understand, because the question of whether they do is like asking whether A-flat is yellow. |
