As years go by, some prefer more friction in their tools: no syntax highlighting, missing drivers, and inconvenient setups. They hope the upside is increased focus, less abstraction, and a return to basics: first principles, bare-metal contrivance, and cheap hardware.

Sometimes the friction is so high, nothing but living gets done. Time passes quickly, and time to first keypress is measured in days.

Good post.

There’s a flip side to this. Be honest with yourself and others that you picked a tool because it’s popular, not because there was any serious matching of use-case and features.
