How frequently does one actually update their ssh config ? Few times a year?

No offense intended but feels — at best a solution looking for problem — or a long game attempt at a xz-style backdoor.

Eh depends. I found myself in a situation where I was connecting to a changing set of servers quite frequently, which is why I built it. But perhaps I'm the outlier!
