It's not a financial problem (well it is), it's a cultural problem. American culture just doesn't value education and learning in general. Isaac Asimov articulated this very well: Anti-intellectualism has been a constant thread winding its way through our political and cultural life, nurtured by the false notion that democracy means that 'my ignorance is just as good as your knowledge'. |
