To be clear: the law DOES NOT give the president power over tariffs. It gives him some ability to massage them, but Congress has this power. To do this, Trump declared a national emergency so he could use emergency powers that are designed for events like war. Congress is supposed to check this power, but Republicans are bowing to Trump as their all-knowing ruler. |
