LiMux always gets mentioned in such topics... it's an interesting story and as I've actually worked there early in my career I've written a few times about what the actual issues were and why it failed - you might read through [1]. tl;dr: LiMux didn't just fail due to politics (although politics did play a large role and I will forever dislike Dieter Reiter for a multitude of reasons, LiMux being among them), it was set up for failure from the beginning, mostly budget related. https://hn.algolia.com/?dateRange=all&page=0&prefix=true&que... |

The issue was propaganda. There are even rumors that Dieter Reiter told someone that he regretted moving away from LiMux after he had to pay so much money for IT.
