I guess expect became something almost popular enough to be considered external to TCL in the end, too.

Expect is very cool and useful. I have used it some.

I read almost the full Expect book by Don Libes, the author of Expect, several years ago. He had a unique and very interesting style of writing, in that book.

Yes, so popular that there are also ports of Expect to some other languages, such as Python and others.
