She was detained for writing a pro-palestinean op-ed and being considered "anti-Israel". Why is that information not mentioned in the headline?

I think this highlights how unconstitutional this administration is being. When the news first broke, nobody knew and it made sense not to put a guess in a headline.

Now they’ve responded with some very strong accusations which could be included because they’re actually saying something in public about it:

> DHS and (Immigration and Customs Enforcement) investigations found Ozturk engaged in activities in support of Hamas, a foreign terrorist organization that relishes the killing of Americans. A visa is a privilege, not a right. Glorifying and supporting terrorists who kill Americans is grounds for visa issuance to be terminated. This is commonsense security.

Of course, none of this is warranted - there’s no active threat and they could have followed the legal process but based on how quickly they moved her to Louisiana I suspect they’re hoping to blow off the court orders long enough to get her out of the country.

Are you implying that this is somehow exonerative of the government? Or even adds meaningful nuance?

We happen to have a thing called the First Amendment. Whatever she said, or whatever the press published, is constitutionally permissible.

I think it's relevant information because it shows how dangerous this government is. They're not "deporting illegal immigrants," they're trying to destroy the Bill of Rights.

This after three years of hearing the right shout about "free speech".

On the contrary. How arresting people for being "anti-israel" could be a good thing?
> If the Department of State issues you an F or M student visa, this means that you are coming to the United States to study. You should not take any action that detracts from that purpose. Maintaining your status means:

> Fulfilling the purpose for why the Department of State issued you your visa.

> Following the regulations associated with that purpose.

She isn't being charged with a crime. What are you talking about? What does engaging in politics outside her county have to do with education?

What's next, deporting student visa holders who listen to music in their free time? That's got nothing to do with their education!
Only if it's the wrong tempo https://www.cnn.com/2024/04/08/europe/chechnya-music-ban-scl... . Dub or happy hardcore? Straight to gulag.
Exactly. You are either pro-genocide, or pro-terrorist. What sort of choice is that?
