Do You Think Prompts Are the Secret Sauce of LLM Wrapper Startups?

I think so.

Some angels and VCs worry about startups just being OpenAI wrappers, but good UX and well crafted prompts can be real barriers when you invest enough time in the right product-market fit.

The deeper you go, the more prompts become a real secret sauce especially when combined with complex agent orchestration.

What do you think?

Absolutely. If you’re tackling a real, high-value problem in an untapped market, prompts become a serious competitive advantage. It’s not just about calling OpenAI’s API it’s about deeply understanding the nuances of your use case, refining prompts through iteration, and integrating them into a seamless UX with the right agent orchestration.

The real magic happens when prompts evolve beyond simple text inputs and become part of a system that continuously learns and adapts. Even if someone reverse-engineers your approach, they won’t replicate the intuition, iteration cycles, and edge cases you’ve fine-tuned over time. That’s where the real moat is.

Definately, a lot of them are just AI wrappers. I looked into some Competitive Analysis products and ended up getting a prompt that gives the same output in ChatGPT
Sure, but it seems like a very fragile thing to pin your business on…
