What's with those comments? Wow.

Edit: Upon further inspection... almost every phoronix comment thread seems to be this toxic.

It has everything that certain group hates:

- rust

- rust in linux

- vtuber persona

- vtuber persona's gender that doesn't match gender of person under that persona

Too early to tell now for the HN thread, but I came here thinking "this will be a hell of a comment section"...
Typical phoronix-style inflammatory blogspam. If this is what it takes to keep a Linux news site afloat, we're better off without any.

Also, as always, the article is below HN's level...

I always thought there was too many linux sites compared to the amount of linux users anyway.
Did they disable the comment thread visibility for anon/not-logged-in users? I hope they deleted the comments instead of only hiding them from the public eye.
They disabled the entire comment thread, even if you're logged in:

Sorry, you are not authorized to view this page. For assistance contact the site administrator.

Here's one of the pages I still had open: https://0x0.st/81X4.png

i am still able to see it; perhaps you're not a paying subscriber, which i (regrettably) am.

edit: yes you do need a phoronix premium or have been a forum member for 3+ years to view the thread.

Not sure about the forum member part, I've been onboard since 2019 and it shows the same error message on my end
Can you upload screenshots for archival purposes? Thanks
Unfortunately I have just cancelled my subscription, which has terminated my membership immediately. I don't want to reread the atrocious waste (or expose them to others) anyway.
Sounds like a good opportunity to save yourself some money.
Why?
Paying money that seemingly goes entirely to supporting a comments section dominated by trolls seems like a bad idea to me. YMMV I guess.
Wow, it was really bad.
If you find this shocking, you're in a quite fortunate bubble.
It looks as though they specifically disabled the comments for this article (or moved the thread to an subforum which isn't visible to the public).

Notably, even if Phoronix disabled the comments, they have not administered any consequences to the main offender
I doubt it, some of the commenters there have been terrible for years.
It's like the worst of the edgy Linux users of the 90s, but somehow worse.

Correct. It's notoriously bad.

I can’t even view the comments without signing in. Probably a good thing.
