A significant portion of my PhD funding came from DARPA and NSF. If I was doing that work today, I probably would not be able to study ways to implement quantum tunneling in devices made with novel semiconductor materials (Gallium Arsenide)

They're actively destroying US preeminence in science and technology. This has multiple effects. The lack of technology innovation leads to the lack of business innovation. The lack of business innovation leads to stagnant financial growth. The lack of technology innovation also leads to military opponents being as well-equipped or even better equipped than you. That's bad now that the US has entered an era of abandoning diplomacy.
