Just a thought for discussion. Karpathy's comment that agency > intelligence has blown up on X, but I think he's generalising from his own experience. In a chaotic environment (in which most start ups and even huge tech companies operate) it's true agency matters a lot. But in more structured environments, where outcomes are driven by well-establishes processes, intelligence is much more important. It strikes me as odd that even super-intelligent people are so quick to generalise from unrepresentative samples. |
