Science != Scientific Research Establishment.

Science the process is something that ANYONE can follow in ANY activity to get closer to the truth.

Science the religion, is just that. It has leaders, and they are part of an in group, there are people who "believe" in it.

Science, the process doesn't require trust, or belief.

I agree that the scientific establishment has leaders and somewhat enforces orthodoxies. Going against a dominant idea will probably make it hard to get grants or progress a career.

I still hesitate to call it a religion. It is certainly a human endeavour with all the flaws that come with that.

There's scientism, though the term has several rather different meanings.
