In the 90s and 00s paying more for CPU ment I could work faster. I was extreemly grateful for each breakthrough. Even in the 10s this wasn't really true. Storage and bandwith took a bigger slice and CPU was in abundance. We are now at the point I could easy serve the DB and App servers of a multi-million SaaS off my mobile phone. The few remaining areas where compute is still the bottleneck at all: video encoding, 3d rendering, mining, and predominantly now AI; also tend not to focuse on the CPU. |
