Tell HN: Apple will not replace keyboard
5 points by Ghostt8117 520 days ago
We bought a new Macbook in 2019. The store promised the keyboard issues were fixed. We were sold a 2017 model and the keys have failed three times. They will no longer fix the issue despite the multiple recorded prior repairs. Even speaking with a senior Apple Advisor they refuse to cover it anymore. Posting here as a reminder because now we are forced to buy a new laptop before the school year as the 'e' key doesn't work at all. I'm hopeful others who could get Apple to stand by their products will see this post.

That's 4 years ago for a 8 year model. Apple stops supporting models typically after 7 years
They stopped covering the keyboard issue 4 years from purchase date, which was only a year ago. Also, we thought we were buying a 2019 model. We did not know it was a 2017 model.

Also, I'd like to note that my 6 year old Honda Civic has a recall and they are required by law to repair the issue free of charge to the consumer. I know laptop failure won't result in potential death, but customers should be protected from poorly designed products that fail. No other laptop or desktop I have ever used has had keyboard issues.

Even when the Apple keyboards work as designed they aren’t good. I’m currently forced to use a MacBook and the keyboard is so much worse than a Thinkpad keyboard
