Seems like a bit of a disingenuous take. There are electronics (wifi and bluetooth connectivity, battery that lasts up to a year), but eInk has no backlight and only uses power to change the pixels (even without power the image will stay.. as anyone who has a first gen eReader with bulging battery is probably all too aware)

I don't really argue - it just seems like hyperbole itself.

Also, whatever is listening for updates has to be constantly active.
