It looks like Hardy used Dedekind cuts from starting with the second edition (1914), but not in the first edition (1908). What's the advantage of Dedekind cuts over say equivalence classes of Cauchy sequences of rational numbers? Particularly if you start out by introducing the integers and rational numbers as equivalence classes as well. |
