I got a digicert 1y with cloud signing on azure for less than $150. There are lots of resellers, and the one I found supports individuals. Now, MS should support trusted code signing ($10/mo) for individuals. But yes, it absolutely sucks and it’s very easy to lose hope when developing for desktop. Every platform sucks in unique ways.
