FWIW, I wrote an EPUB (well, it was called OEBPS at the time) reader that rendered pretty much all of the format ~21 years ago (including all of XHTML and CSS) and it had very decent performance. I seem to recall that someone tried it on the One Laptop Per Child XO and it was... well, slow, but it worked. So it's possible :) |
