On the Enterprise-D in “Star Trek: The Next Generation”, they don’t have WiFi or any other kind of local wireless except for voice calls. So when the android Data needs to access some information, he reads it from a GUI terminal, but at 1000x speed. (It seems like the iPad-like touchscreen tablets don’t have WiFi either because they are frequently used to “sneakernet” information inside the ship.) |
