Most people literally cannot afford to be single income. There are divorcees who stay together simply because either cannot afford to move out and go it alone for a while.

But we a matter of risk mitigation, it's obvious why people wish to put themselves in a situation where they don't wind up in the situation or being dependent on a single income (that is another person) when they have preplanned all that out already and chosen it
