It’s visually similar to a 2230, but does not appear to actually be a 2230 if you look closely at the pins.

Correct, it's not a 2230. Standard NVMe drives combine the NAND and controller onto a single module, but Apple Silicon machines have the SSD controller built into the main SOC, and the SSD module is just the raw NAND chips.

I searched for Mac Studio SSD upgrades, and I do indeed see modules that look just like the one in the picture. Not cheap.
