In Search of Schrodinger's Cat by John Gribbin (http://www.amazon.com/Search-Schrodingers-Cat-John-Gribbin/d...) is a good starting point for the layman. Some things like the Higgs Boson are abstruse, but superpositions aren't extremely complex.
