Funny, I've always thought that definition of intelligence meant to be able to solve a huge array of various problems. Which should imply evolutionary success in theory. OTOH I can see how it can cripple you (e.g. a 'dumb' car salesman can sell cars for more because he doesn't know if the car is worth less than his offer).
