After taking a big tech job during an already deep phase of burnout, I basically have allowed myself to spiral into a 2 year deep depression and it’s getting to a point where going to work makes me physically ill. I’ve tried long vacations, long distance running, biking, socializing, etc. While I can get on a streak of feeling good, work outweighs it 100% of the time after about 2 weeks and I slump back into a dark place. I’m thinking it’s probably healthy to take time off, but reading the news with long turnaround times, brutal competition and sky rocketing living costs in the USA, I’m not sure this is even possible unless I risk homelessness. I have savings, but my fear is that I burn through it all and worsen my mental health. Can anyone who has done something similar speak to how they approached this? |
