Yeah to me this is something people don't get about Google. Google was built around the notion that data is valuable so they do their best to keep it to themselves and not share with anyone. They do know who is who by tracking you but it is in their interest to allow their customers to utilise the data but not access it directly. Funnily enough all the actions against Google advertising business monopoly if work out would probably make privacy on the web worse in my opinion. |

google is in the business of selling access to that information.
though, i can see the wisdom in painting the alternative even worse.
