Fixing the real problems often isn't a matter of technology or thought. There are many issues in which the majority are overruled by an influential minority, almost always because the larger group lacks the will to effect change, usually because they think that any effort will be wasted. Those don't take problem-solving skills, they requires the charisma, leadership, and political ability to motivate masses of people to cause revolutionary systemic change.

unfortunately in the current system it mostly takes money to move the needle of change and if you don't have money how do you move the needle?
