When JavaScript was introduced, Java was already gaining traction, and the name JavaScript was chosen to ride on the coattails of that popularity. From that perspective, there’s a pretty good argument in favor of whoever holds the Java trademark, which happens to be Oracle. I have definitely run into people who say things like “they wrote a Java script”, which actually turned out to be a Java program. |
