Not to rain on anyone's parade, but this is little more than a crippled free trial of a product they're selling. They wouldn't be able to sell that part profitably anyway, so open source doesn't mean much from a business perspective.

Historically the "crippled" version works fine and many people use it. Also, attracting tons of free users has real value; for example it creates awareness about the paid version.
Definitely. They're doing this because it will help them sell more. But this is not "going open-source". They're selling the same not open source product as before.
