The YIMBY movement is an interesting political topic in the US because it really cuts across the normal political lines. You get democrats who support it for the social justice/living cost aspects and republicans who support it because it's solving a problem through deregulation/allowing the market to work.

Seems like less of a left/right axis and more of a for/against change axis.

It's the axis of have's versus have not's. A lot of the people I know are YIMBY as long as nothing really happens. I don't see too much affordable housing in super left wing upscale neighborhoods. It's just words.
