If the constants are the same in distant galaxies, then that's either a massive coincidence or the constants are stable over both time and space (because of lightspeed delay). The further away we look, the more obvious any effect should be. If we detect a change then it's worth checking if this is also observable over shorter distances and timescales, and at that point we would look at our own galaxy. |
