My opinion is that there’s a $100m ARR business that you can build by just being “Planetscale for Postgres”
i take this as a compliment. i don’t however believe it’s this simple. PlanetScale is PlanetScale because of Vitess and MySQL’s combined reliability and scalability. there are companies out there trying to be PlanetScale for Postgres and they can barely keep two 9’s of uptime which is kind of missing the point.
I agree it’s going to be really hard to do, but I do think there’s an opportunity there for someone to make something that helps companies run Postgres at scale reliably.

I think most companies aren’t really working to appeal the higher end of the market when trying to be “Planetscale for Postgres” - the focus seems to mainly be easy developer experience and faster iterations for startups
