Yes, type 1 is a different beast. The latests theories point to gluten to cause a leaky gut, that causes complex foreign molecules to enter the bloodstream, and as some molecules are similar to our own, this causes the immune system to attack some cells in our body. The cells in the pancreas that make insulin are one of these. The bad news is that if you have Type 1, you can't be cured, and need insulin for life. |
