#2 and #3 were always there, just with different targets. You could easily get shut down for not confirming to (depending on your time frame and location) McCarthyism, the comics code, the wishes of the Nazi party, saying things the King didn't like, etc. #2 has also been a thing basically forever, from "look how great $REIGNING_MONARCH is" to "hey look how screwed up our system for taking care of orphans is" (Oliver twist) to 1984, etc. |
