Automatic updates are always a good idea... until they aren't ! It's an open door to problems ranging from subtle version semantic difference (try to find why what was working yesterday is not working today without any change) to hacking. In corporate environment, it might trigger some unexpected alarms (or be blocked) Gentoo got this right: by default, the "old" behaviour should be kept (no automatic update) and it should only be opt-in |
