Show HN: I made a tool to help collect and validate startup ideas (keepmyidea.app)
38 points by kyryloalokhin 681 days ago
Hey HN, I’m Kyrylo. I recently created a small tool that lets you gather, refine, and validate SaaS/startup ideas using AI. I used to jot down my product ideas in a note apps, but it wasn’t very practical for collecting feedback or refining them. So, I built this tool to make the process easier.

Here’s how it works:

1. Enter a brief description of your idea. 2. The app uses AI to generate project details. 3. Share your idea via a link that includes a feedback form.

It’s pretty straightforward, and I’d love to hear your thoughts or any suggestions!

I have zero faith in AI for this use case. But if you want an example for this idea with actual human validation, a small Israeli VC fund created an "Idea Graveyard" where entrepreneurs share ideas that failed with an explanation of what was the idea, how far did it get, and why it failed.

I think that for someone with zero experience in funding a VC backed company its a great place to get a feeling of what you need to do to "Validate" your idea, by seeing what people in similar positions did to validate theirs.

https://www.ideas.rip/ideas/

(I'm not from that fund, and they are not investing in my company)

VC projects die for reasons that are not existent for a solopreneur, if much this "graveyard" could be a great place to find ideas that were executed poorly by people that didn't care about the resources they had to spend.
Don't take it too seriously. My app is focused on providing a quick and easy way to share initial project concepts with others. The key is feedback gathering. I use LLM just to quickly provide project brief for user.
Heh, you should probably take your idea seriously if you put any effort into it, don't you think?

I'm sure there is a good core for this idea but if your product can be replaced by a google docs folder and copy pasting from a chatbot than more likely than not you need to do more ideation

Thanks for your feedback! I appreciate honesty :)
Congrats on shipping!

Please don't steal my idea:

> FuneralDash provides on-demand services for funeral needs, allowing families to order necessary arrangements swiftly, similar to food delivery apps. This service aims to ease the logistical stress during difficult times.

> What problem does it solve?

> Planning a funeral can be overwhelming and time-consuming, often leading to added stress for grieving families. Many are left to navigate complex arrangements on their own at a time when they are least equipped to do so, which impacts emotional wellbeing.

> Who is target audience?

> The primary audience includes grieving families and individuals responsible for organizing funerals, who may be middle-aged or older, often lacking experience in arranging such events. They seek compassion, efficiency, and convenience in a challenging time.

> What makes this solution unique?

> Unlike traditional funeral services, FuneralDash offers rapid, user-friendly access to essential services and products through an app. Its unique approach includes customizable packages, empathy-driven customer service, and live tracking, which are typically absent from existing solutions.

Thanks for feedback!
Sorry, I had to…

An app designed to expose and analyze the deceptive practices of AI-based applications, helping users identify scams and protect themselves.

What problem does it solve? The rise of AI-based scams threatens users who lack knowledge about these technologies. This app educates users, saving them from possible financial and data losses.

Who is target audience? Primarily tech-savvy individuals aged 18-45 who frequently use apps and are concerned about online security. This audience values transparency and safety in technology.

What makes this solution unique? Unlike existing solutions, this app integrates user feedback and real-time analysis to offer a personalized and community-driven approach to identifying AI scams. It also educates users about red flags in app behavior.

Why the arbitrary 18-45 limitation? Do humans get too smart to fall for this stuff after 45 and before 18?
:D
Key point from the EULA on this site:

""" When you use our website or its associated services to post, upload, share, or otherwise transmit content covered by intellectual property rights, you grant to us a non-exclusive, royalty-free, transferable, sub-licensable, worldwide license to use, distribute, modify, run, copy, publicly display, translate, or otherwise create derivative works of your content in a manner that is consistent with your privacy preferences and our Privacy Policy. """

So they will take your ideas and use them but they will not however outright steal your ideas:

""" You retain your intellectual property ownership rights over content you submit to us for publication on our website. We will never claim ownership of your content, but we do require a license from you in order to use it. """

Off to check the ChatGPT EULA.

Thanks for this, I think I'm gonna re-check terms of services! For sure we not gonna steal anyones ideas.
"World domination."

> The idea of 'world domination' is unclear and inappropriate for analysis.

"A service that lets you bet on what weather is your city currently having."

> WeatherBet is a unique service that allows users to place bets on the current weather conditions in their city. Users can predict whether it will rain, shine, or snow, adding an engaging layer to weather forecasting.

> What problem does it solve? This service addresses the lack of engagement and excitement in weather prediction, turning everyday weather updates into a competitive and interactive experience. This problem affects enthusiasts and casual weather followers alike as they often find traditional forecasts boring.

> Who is target audience? WeatherBet targets young adults aged 18-35 who are interested in both gaming and technology. This audience enjoys interactive experiences and is likely to use apps for social engagement, making them prime candidates for betting on daily weather.

> What makes this solution unique? Unlike existing weather apps that merely provide forecasts, WeatherBet incorporates a gamified element, allowing users to bet on real-time weather. This unique approach can boost user engagement, create social interactions, and offer potential rewards, setting it apart from traditional weather services.

CrowdLobby - please steal it

A crowdfunding platform that allows individuals to contribute donations to lobby for political change, empowering small businesses and citizens against corporate lobbying power.

What problem does it solve? This idea addresses the disparity in lobbying power, where large corporations influence laws for their benefit. Smaller entities and individuals often lack resources to voice their concerns, leading to legislation that overlooks their needs.

Who is target audience? The primary audience includes small business owners, grassroots organizations, and engaged citizens who desire a voice in political matters. Demographics include individuals aged 18-70, typically socially aware and interested in political activism.

What makes this solution unique? Current lobbying avenues are often dominated by wealthy interests, making it difficult for everyday people to compete. Crowdfunding donations for political causes democratizes the lobbying process, enabling collective action from the grassroots level.

That's been around for years, actually! https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Advocacy_group
> AdPaw Hat

> A unique hat for dogs that allows owners to monetize ad space through bids, creating an innovative blend of pet fashion and advertising.

> What problem does it solve? Many pet owners struggle to find creative ways to earn extra income. The lack of unique, monetizable pet products limits their options. This idea addresses that gap by offering a wearable solution that can be marketplace-driven.

> Who is target audience?

> Targeting pet owners, particularly millennials and Gen Z, who are tech-savvy and interested in innovative products that also provide financial benefits. They value unique items for their pets and are engaged in digital marketplaces.

> What makes this solution unique? Unlike traditional pet accessories, this hat creates a platform for advertising while providing an interactive and engaging product for pets. It bridges pet fashion and income generation, making it distinct and appealing.

(edit - hn kindly removed a spate of useless emojis)

Pretty sure google docs solves this in a much better way... For ideas you need a blank slate, a whiteboard, not some Q&A boxes. It's sharable with optional view-only option that only allows you to leave comments when you're dealing with large amounts of people.
The data is not really an optional, you can edit each field (even the generated ones). Thanks for feedback :)
Personally, I really love hearing about other's startup ideas, chatting about weaknesses and strengths of the idea. How it could be modified to be even better. How big the market could be. What's an MVP that would work.

I love that.

Thanks for feedback! Hmm, public ideas discussion might be interesting.. I appreciate your feedback! I will surely consider your proposal!
Not sure if it needs to be public. But semi-private might work.

But honestly, my comment was more about sharing a vibe than a comment about how you should change your product.

Sure, got it! Appreciate your feedback! :)
I think a single turn app like this one might not be very beneficial. I've used LLMs to brainstorm startup ideas and they almost never are creative enough.

I think the benefit of LLMs here is doing market research, finding risk, asking questions, etc. Someone showed a pretty cool demo of Perplexity doing some of this stuff recently.

Thanks for feedback! I appreciate it!
I told it my idea: A toilet that bites you every time you take a dump

and it said it's an inappropriate idea... mind boggling.

This has a huge "trying to sell pickaxes in a gold rush" vibes.

It's VC inception, your idea is to cater to other startups. I always find that so funny.

Don't take it too seriously. This is just a tool which saves me some time to share feedback with my friends and audience. But thanks for feedback!
this is not a tool, this is an llm wrapper :)
I disagree :)

My app is focused on providing a quick and easy way to share initial project concepts with others. The key is feedback gathering. I use LLM just to quickly provide project brief for user. But the key - feedback from audience you have.

Great idea, I'm going to steal it
Hahaha :D Don't forget to keep this idea :D
:D IdeaCapturePro gonna make me rich
Fun! I put in “Antimatter warp engine” and it told me “needs more features” hahaha excellent
ConferToilet, my contribution to enshittification.

ConferToilet is an innovative toilet solution equipped with video conferencing capabilities, enabling users to conduct virtual meetings even in restroom facilities. This unique concept integrates privacy and functionality, catering to the needs of remote workers and busy professionals.

What problem does it solve? Many professionals face challenges in finding private spaces for urgent video calls, especially in commercial or public settings where privacy is limited. This idea addresses those moments when being out of the office necessitates virtual communication, ensuring that a suitable environment is always within reach.

Who is target audience? The target audience includes remote workers, busy professionals, and tech-savvy individuals who often need to connect virtually but struggle with finding suitable spaces. This includes demographics like millennials and Gen Z, who commonly work from various locations and value innovative solutions.

What makes this solution unique? Current public facilities lack integration with technology for remote work. ConferToilet stands out by providing a dedicated space that combines sanitary needs with tech accessibility, enhancing the user experience through privacy, convenience, and a new approach to multitasking.

Interesting Idea, "Idea to generate and validate ideas" :-P
how it's different from https://www.findmicrosaasideas.com/
My app is focused on providing a quick and easy way to share initial project concepts with others. The key is feedback gathering. I use LLM just to quickly provide project brief for user. But the key is feedback from audience you have.
are you actually getting any good results from this?

ime all such AI apps give pretty canned and trite responses

maybe you can feature some testimonials from people who benefited from this

I appreciate your feedback! Actually the idea AI refinement it's just a quick way to transform user input into some structured concepts. It's just saves time to prepare short project brief. I will provide a testimonials once I'll get enough feedbacks.

Thank you very much for your input!

Great Landingpage! Inspired by Pieter Levels?
Thank you for the feedback! I'm gonna check who it is :D
For anyone else who doesn't know, Pieter Levels is a gifted solo entrepreneur that likes to build in public (to some extent). He is an inspiration glitter bomb. He has an open and honest attitude that really makes him relatable and I believe everyone can find inspiration in his content, no matter the field.
Good to know, thanks!
I took a look at the most recent cohort of YC, and one stood out. It's some sort of referral marketplace front / personal shopper for electronics that's just a wrapper for some chatGPT external calls. I do not understand how it got in. The founders admitted on Reddit that they were surprised as well, as they "only had the idea" and didn't even have an MVP yet. Then I saw their high-level US education, their working pedigree (Tencent employees, I believe), and realized that, you know, it's not really and fundamentally about the idea, is it? Otherwise your LLM wrapper could also stand a chance to get into the next YC cohort.
Don't take it too seriously. My app is focused on providing a quick and easy way to share initial project concepts with others. The key is feedback gathering. I use LLM just to quickly provide project brief for user.
Fun gimmick to blow a bit of life into a fleeting thought. Kind of disappointing my initial idea wasn't saved when I signed up, I understand it's premium tool but let me keep the one that made me sign up in the first place!
Good suggestion, thank you! I'll definitely consider this proposal!
Here's all my ideas. Don't do anything with them. Please......

GTFO here...

"effortless sharing" lol
Good luck getting rich
Thanks but that's not the goal :)
