You use singular they here. Is your child transgender? Gender dysphoria is an honest-to-god medical condition they should be discussing with a professional - it's a hell of a big one too, one that would certainly cause drowning one's sorrows in gaming addiction.

Singular they does not mean transgender, its just a gender neutral pronoun, I'm guessing the parent just wanted not to reveal their child's gender
