Even over 15 years ago, back when I was that age, I think my parents would have said the same thing about me and playing Counter-Strike. There were easily days in which I clocked in 8 hours playing that game, but back then the community was going through a special time. Non-steam providers were gaining traction in my country and they were all terrible at managing their infrastructure. Most were running Windows Server 2008 because nobody in that scene knew how to manage Linux servers. We started our own services, just renting out server space to public Counter Strike clans and it was my foray into Linux server management. I then later interned at large companies, and made my way into the Bay Area.

I wouldn't worry about it. You never know what direction it will take them.

Sadly I don’t think Roblox will provide the same career opportunities but I could be wrong
I've lost one year of high school due to MMORPG, now I'm doing fine but I still regret wasting that year tbh
On the other hand, I knew someone who dropped out of university and lost his chance to qualify for the olympics because he was addicted to Guild Wars.
on the other hand, I know people who met their life-long spouse in EverQuest and made their fortunes (real USD) in MMORPGs.

I think it's fair to say that internet gaming is a poor metric for predicting success, even when there are horror/miracle stories abound.

Did they do so whilst playing all day and neglecting other facets of their life?

Regardless, saying "don't worry about it it will probably work out" isn't helpful advice.
