The difference being, that about half the population has zero chance against the other half in most sports. And for vast majority of the cases, it is very clear-cut as to which group someone belongs. Phelps, on the other hand, is a singular individual. Sports is not the only problem. All public policy, as a consequence of some agreement between a large group of people, should be based on something objective rather than what a person thinks or feels. So how do we know when a person should be able to retire with benefits? |
