Anecdotal at best, but that is essentially the way I learned English, and definitely the reason I think I don't have a distracting accent when talking in English.

I'd say it depends:

- Depends on stage of study - Depends on type of concept - Depends on how the student learns the most effectively.

There's only one way I think your statement is true, and that's if you add "solely".
