I wonder if this will make a difference... if you can afford the expensive flight to Japan to begin with, would you be deterred by spending 20$ more for that castle ticket(just taking that example from the article)?

Japan doesnt have an over tourism problem, they have tanking economy problem. Weak currency means they can at least make some money on tourism.

With exchange rate similar to ~1986 Im surprised Japanese manufacturing sector isnt doing better, they should be killing it now with exports.
