The article does actually mention that: “What was left was methodically looted and then razed to the ground by the German Vernichtungs- and Verbrenungskommando – even as late as mid-January 1945.” Vernichtungskommando is the specific German unit that was responsible for the systematic demolition of the remaining buildings.
