Definitely selection bias but well-founded. The unmotivated masses tend to follow the de-facto system that entrenches the successful few. The remaining motivated and competitive people on the other hand leave for better pastures. People who emigrate from countries whose governments micromanage the population tend to have the worst opinion about them. Not that dissimilar from people who ditch bosses who micromanage =). |
