Yeah I noticed that account is extremely new and only commented on this thread to vanish soon after. Their problem wasn't with the person that conflates schizophrenia and gender dysphoria and calling autism a terrible disease, it was with the person who dared to object to such vitriol.

I don't know why these people expect an honest and sincere discussion when they're repeatedly making new accounts to astroturf their views and endorse their own posts.

Been a while since I heard this lie, the last time was when Lily Cade was interviewed by the BBC about a situation she fabricated. The day after she created a website talking about how trans people should be slaughtered. Frightening how quickly anti-trans people can go from fabricating stories to bolster their 'arguments' to creating websites graphically describing how they'd execute trans people.

On twitter these people repeatedly spout lies while claiming to just "not understand" despite having everything explained to them many many times and then going on to celebrate the murder of a trans person in a tweet the day after.

These people demand everyone else be calm while they send death threats to people on twitter or send bomb threats to hospitals.

One could maybe invoke Hanlon's razor but Hanlon's razor is a joke from a joke book. Some people are just evil. Someone who believes autism is a "terrible disease" and lies about schizophrenia and trans people probably isn't far off.

Just so we are out in the open here, this person thinks that a gay man(me) who is concerned about children being asked "you might be trans and thats okay" is basically, in question because children cannot possibly understand something as fluid as sexual emotion let alone something as synthesized as gender identity. He is referencing this post where I commented a long honest retort to basically never ending agenda to make everything about being trans.

I am gay, 34, and I still can't understand HOW doctors can justify severing breasts, a penis, or altering chemical systems permanently in someones body to make them feel better about themselves, especially in youth! This is like treating Schizophrenia by playing into their delusions to give them comfort. There is also something extremely concerning about gender dysphoria or being trans becoming essentially a pop culture within more blue-leaning states while other states have statistically low occurrence of gender dysphoria(which is in line with modern psychiatry and historically). Are blue-leaning states producing trans people, why are most trans people in the USA under 25(by more than 43%!)? Is this our generations medical grift(snake oil)? In 40 years will we have a derogatory reference to it in our history books(gender med)?

Sounds super insensitive, but I don't mean to be. I feel awful for these people that are truly miserable and need help, but there is more going on here from a crony-capitalism and big-pharma perspective than people are willing to admit. I feel this is so damaging to a large group of a future generation of our youth and creating contention even between communities that are otherwise united on the other 98% of issues that we face.

Oh yeah, I sound like such a hater having concerns for children as well as expressing deep concerns for people who are deeply troubled with their grip on their sexual identity and me having that conflict internally while expressing my own emotions and concerns is somehow forbidden.

I will agree with DonHopkins. In your post you are basically spreading misinfo and comparing GD to schizophrenia while using your gay status as a shield. Ironically some of the most transphobic people that I know are gay men, and this is not a revent phenomenon either.

A bit of empathy, an attempt to get informed about what is going on, and trying to talk to trans people about their experiences would go a long way.

Edit: I just saw your post where you said that autism is a terrible disease, I will be withdrawing from the discussion as I don't think any reasoning is going to be had.

While I appreciate your presumptuous concern, I must disabuse you of the notion that I require fictitious accounts to court controversy. My singular, longstanding Hacker News account suffices admirably for that purpose. As for engaging in dialogue, I find your fixation on transgender politics and trichological tribulations(hair loss) rather limiting. Perhaps these intersecting preoccupations stem from a deeper struggle with accepting certain incontrovertible truths?
