Because we have failed to adapt our laws sufficiently to keep up with modern networked computing realities. And it is more profitable in the short term (the short term is ending, right about now, in my opinion) to continue to not update our laws. We are going to start to see productivity drop at some point (now) from all of the corruption and inefficiencies that are stacking up to pay for said short-term profits. |
