I guess the fundamental issue is who is moderating whom. We can't have it both ways - applaud some people/websites/companies when they moderate/censor/cancel content that we don't agree with and then cry hoarse when the "other side" does something similar. Unfortunately, even the mainstream media has chosen this path of selective moderation and selective outrage. The absolute conviction of the truly converted is frightening as they truly believe, "You're either with us, or against us." Like everything in life, there is a spectrum of political thought and speech. I don't accept that all capitalists are evil in the same way as I don't accept that employees don't have any rights and can be fired at will. Likewise, conservative and liberal ideologies shouldn't demand a total adherence to their dogmas. I sincerely believe that most of us can relate to both ideologies, depending on the issue at hand. |
