Show HN: Keyboardminder – Use the keyboard more and build a better workflow
1 points by arock093 707 days ago
A set of tools to help you use your keyboard more and build a better workflow.

Overview:

I'm excited to share Keyboardminder, an open-source project that helps you use the keyboard more by getting out of the habit of using your mouse or trackpad. This is the first project in a series aimed to help you build a better workflow.

Tools:

Disable Taskbar: Disable the taskbar so that you remember to use the keyboard to switch windows. The taskbar can be temporarily re-enabled with a shortcut. Require CapsLock: Caps Lock is required to be held to do some mouse actions. Time Between Clicks: Adds a wait time between clicks after a certain number is reached.

GitHub Repository: Check it out, star it, fork it, and contribute:

Why it Matters:

This is my first open source project of hopefully many. It lays the groundwork for those to come in a series of projects aimed to give users a powerful workflow they can use to efficiently complete their work.

With some funding I will be able to continue to develop these projects on the side. I've been testing these tools for a few months now and still find them very useful. You can find a much more in depth explanation of everything on GitHub. Feel free to reach out if you want to hear more about my story and why I am doing this.

Feedback and contributions are highly appreciated!

why would you please such a requirement on the caps lock key? I personally do not have / use it - ever.
For the RequireCapsLock tool I chose caps lock because most people don’t use it very often and it doesn’t have side effects from being held down while pressing mouse buttons.

The idea with this tool is that if your left hand and more of your brain is actively involved in what ever task you’re working on you will complete it more efficiently. I don’t use this tool all the time but do find it useful for certain tasks.
