Regardless of ageism, which I have to imagine is going to vary based on the employer: * The job market is very tough right now. Not getting a lot of responses seems to be a pretty common experience. * Thought experiment: imagine you have 100 applicants and need to move some of them on to a phone screen. How much about each applicant would you want to read? Keep resumes on the short side. I've heard 1 page is a good limit, as is last 10 years of experience. Throw the old stuff out. Make your resume a picture of your experience and capabilities that is easy to understand at a glance. * From my own experience in this market it is much better to have a human point of contact -- a recruiter, an employee referral, etc -- than cold applying. |
