He is in a pickle. He could solve his problems by using a Mac. Designed from the ground up in a uniform fashion instead of bolted on components from different vendors. Excellent sleep/wake support, none of this nonsense of switching graphics cards....but he is a game developer and so he is married to this platform called PC/Windows that is composed of competing interests, none of which care about the total user experience. I guess his only solution is to shout into the wind on Twitter and hope something will change (it wont).

Mac also has its issues just you are so used to it that you don't realize it anymore.

Like for me the Mac will sometimes randomly turn on from sleep like in the middle of the night. For updates or things like that.

When you have wireless mouse but probably any kind of mouse, just a slight move of it will wake the laptop from sleep.

When you have the fingerprint sensor equiped power button, the thing constantly mix up going to sleep because you push it but also waking up immediately because it sensed your finger print on top of the button. ...

that's because you don't own your operating system, it's Apples software and they'll do whatever they please with your harware

After a decade of using Linux (to the point of compiling my own kernel since I am a CS guy) and using Windows since I was 6, I would gladly take the Mac any day of the week.

I'm sorry this happened to you. I only ever saw this on Windows. In fact (I probably shouldn't say this) but it lets me defer updates far longer than on Windows. I think the longest I have gone is a year+? They are the least intrusive updates ever.

This does not happen on Windows or Linux? I have definitely seen it on Windows.

I think this is more on you as that feature is a blast to use for login purposes. On newer macs, the machine starts when you open the lid so maybe its been resolved on newer macs?

Wireless mouse issue isn’t Mac-specific. Bluetooth wake-from-sleep is a thing on both Linux and windows depending on the device.

Fingerprint issue has been super annoying though. Only happens when waking, where it wakes and then turns it off immediately again.

My macs have thankfully never once randomly turned on or done an unexpected update; you normally tell it “update later tonight.”

Personally I don't have the issue of wake up when moving the mouse with my Linux laptops (mint and Ubuntu based)

If it's for updates it's not random. Modern M series macs also don't really sleep anymore, they just enter a very low power state.

Umm, why not disable automatic updates if you don’t want the machine to wake up to update whilst you’re not using it?

TouchID issue is valid though.

My Linux machine only does GPU switching when I ask it to.

It's very much another Windows issue.

I'm sure it does...he also did hint that he is open to Linux...but i'm also sure there are enough problems with Linux that will keep him coming back to Twitter for years.

But regardless, he sounds a bit like Tim Sweeney. Uses shitty tools and would rather complain than just stop using them.

Regarding the tools, you seem to be missing my point, he explained why he is in a pickle: He develops games...Windows is the premier gaming platform whether he likes it or not...hence he needs to develop on Windows.

It's a personal choice to use terrible tools. Currently he is picking two bad choices.

He is using the top of the line hardware because of the nature of his work. And I'm presuming you can't disable the iGPU. You are really boxing him into a terrible situation and just because you can tolerate Linux nonsense does not automatically make it an ideal solution for others.
